Frequently Asked Questions.
The consultation is a 20-minute call (video or phone) where I get to know a bit about what you are going through and what you are hoping to work on. It is also your chance to ask questions and see if this feels like a good fit. There is no pressure to commit. If it is not the right match, I can help point you in a better direction.
The first session is about understanding your story. I will ask about what brought you to therapy, the challenges you are facing, and what you want to work toward. I will also review consent, policies, and practical details like scheduling and insurance. Think of it as a foundation-building session. We are getting to know each other and setting the direction.
If something feels off and you have not been able to resolve it on your own, therapy is worth exploring. You do not need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a "good enough" reason. Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected is reason enough. The consultation is a low-pressure way to find out if this approach works for you.
That is completely fine. Many people reach out knowing something feels off but without being able to name it precisely. The consultation and first few sessions are designed to help you get clear on what you want to work on. You do not need to have the right words before reaching out.
Friends are important, but therapy offers something different. A trained therapist can help you identify patterns you might not see on your own, challenge thoughts that keep you stuck, and give you practical tools to change the way you respond to stress, conflict, or emotional pain. Sessions are structured, confidential, and focused entirely on you.
It depends on what you are working through. Some clients see meaningful progress within 3 to 4 months. Others stay longer to work on deeper patterns. There is no fixed timeline. I check in regularly on progress and goals, and you are never locked into a set number of sessions.
A Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) is a therapist who has completed the required graduate education and passed the registration exam with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). The "Qualifying" designation means I am currently completing supervised clinical hours as a final requirement before full registration. I am held to the same professional standards, ethical guidelines, and scope of practice as a fully registered psychotherapist. My CRPO license number is 14727.
Yes. All sessions are conducted online through JaneApp video or by phone. This means you can attend from anywhere in Ontario. Virtual therapy removes barriers like commuting, parking, and taking time off work, and research consistently shows it is just as effective as in-person therapy.
I offer evening appointments Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. These hours are specifically designed for working professionals and busy parents who cannot attend daytime sessions.
A 50-minute session is $115. I also offer 30-minute sessions at $60, 70-minute sessions at $165, and 80-minute sessions at $175. A free 20-minute consultation is available before your first session.
Many extended health insurance plans cover psychotherapy from a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I am listed with GreenShield (including EAP), Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, and Desjardins. I provide receipts after each session that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
I require 24 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations are charged 50 percent of the session fee to the credit card on file. I understand that life happens, and I do my best to be flexible when circumstances are genuinely beyond your control.
