Life Transitions

Life Transitions Therapy for People Who Feel Stuck and Ready to Move Forward.

You have been thinking about this for a while. Maybe it is a career change you cannot stop turning over in your mind. Maybe it is a growing sense that the life you built is not the life you actually want. The ideas are there. But so is the fear.
Understanding Transitions

The Emotional Side of Life Transitions

Career changes and life transitions trigger some of the deepest fears people carry. Fear of failure. Fear of judgment. Fear of wasting time or money. Fear of discovering that the new thing is just as bad as the old thing.

These fears are not irrational. They are built from real experiences. A previous job that did not work out. A decision that disappointed someone you care about. A pattern of second-guessing that has eroded your confidence over time.

Therapy helps you work through these barriers directly. Not by ignoring the practical realities, but by addressing the emotional ones that keep you frozen.

Common Patterns

When Life Feels Like It Is Working Against You

Life transitions are not just logistical. They are deeply emotional. You might recognize some of these patterns.

You have been stuck in the same loop for months or years, researching options but never committing
You do not trust your own instincts anymore because a past decision did not go the way you hoped
The idea of starting over feels exciting and terrifying at the same time
You are burned out in your current role but afraid of what leaving might cost you
You feel pressure from family, finances, or your own expectations to "figure it out"
You keep comparing yourself to people who seem to have it together
You have tried career coaching or generic job-search advice but it did not address the real barriers

The real barriers are rarely about your resume. They are about fear, self-doubt, perfectionism, and the belief that making a wrong move would be worse than staying stuck.

The Approach

What Life Transition Support Looks Like

Sessions are structured around your goals and your pace. We start by getting clear on what is actually happening. Not just the career question, but the emotional landscape around it.

From there, we work on both tracks simultaneously. The internal work: addressing self-doubt, perfectionism, fear of failure, or identity confusion. Building self-trust. Reconnecting with your strengths.

And the practical work: exploring realistic transition options based on your transferable skills. Breaking down large changes into manageable steps. Discussing education pathways, licensing requirements, financial considerations, and labour market outlook.

Insurance Note

Life transitions support is covered through GreenShield EAP. Many other extended health plans also cover psychotherapy from a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).

Why I Am Different

Therapy Meets Career Expertise

Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working at YMCA Employment Services, where I provided one-on-one career coaching, built Employment Action Plans, worked directly with employers, and helped clients navigate everything from resume writing to realistic career pivots.

I understand the HR side. I know what employers are actually looking for. I know how to evaluate transferable skills across industries. I have helped people transition from administration to medical, from general labour to project management, from office work to law enforcement.

But I am not a career coach. I am a therapist with career expertise. That means I can help you with both the emotional barriers and the practical ones in the same session.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It is therapy with career expertise. I can help you with the emotional barriers (fear, self-doubt, paralysis) and the practical ones (the plan, skills assessment, realistic next steps) in the same session. Most therapists cannot do both. Most career coaches cannot either.

I have specific knowledge across HR, hospitality, case management, social work, early childhood education, teaching, construction, legal, law enforcement, medical, lab technician roles, and administration. If your transition involves any of these fields, I can speak to the realities of the work.

That is common and okay. We start by exploring what is driving the desire for change, what fears are attached to it, and what has kept you stuck. Clarity often comes through the process, not before it.

Yes. Life transitions support is covered through GreenShield EAP and many other extended health plans that cover psychotherapy from a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).

It varies. Some clients gain clarity and a plan within a few months. Others stay longer to work through deeper barriers or navigate complex transitions. There is no fixed timeline.

Take the First Step

You do not have to stay stuck.

The loop of researching, overthinking, and second-guessing does not have to be where this ends. If you are ready to stop going back and forth and start building a realistic plan with someone who understands both the emotional and practical sides, I am here to help.
